For the past 40 years, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp – iconic stars in the music world – have teamed up to help raise awareness of the struggles of family farmers trying to stay in business. On September 20 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the musicians are scheduled to be part of the 40th Annual Farm Aid.

Farm Aid organizers say that they have raised $85 million on behalf of family farmers since they began their annual fundraiser and awareness efforts in 1985 as the Farm Crisis ruined the livelihoods of many families.

“For 40 years, Farm Aid and our partners have stood with farmers, supporting them to stay on their land even when corporate power, bad policies and broken promises make it harder to keep going,” Willie Nelson said on the Farm Aid 40 website.

He continued, “This year, we’re proud to bring Farm Aid to Minnesota to celebrate the farmers who sustain us and to fight for a food system that works for all of us. Family farmers aren’t backing down, and neither are we.”
